On July 13, 2017, the U.S. House of Representatives issued a resolution recognizing, “Whereas traumatic experiences affect millions of people in the United States and can affect a person’s mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, economic, and social well-being…”
This seems to us an important step, and reminds us of the important efforts a decade ago to make people aware of the social determinants of health, which at the time were unknown to most but academics in schools of public health. Building awareness is a necessary precursor to changing behaviors.
